This auction is for 3 Antique 1880's-90's VICTORIAN Handmade Intricate Irish Crochet Lace Collars.


These incredible collars date to around 1880's-1890's that's my safe estimate and is completely handmade. The style of lace is created using very fine crochet hooks and is referred to as 'Irish crochet lace'. The picot mesh and  small detailed  3-D flowers worked together form unique collars finished with a  picot design that creates a scallop edge.  There are few places with broken bridges could be find throughout these collars, one collar has missing center of a flower. Measurements:


- 4" & 4.5" collars width

- approximately 15" long around neck opening, 33" long around collar hem.


Crochet lace was brought to Ireland from France in the 1700s by the Ursuline nuns. It became popular in the mid-nineteenth century as part of schemes to alleviate the famine caused by the potato blight in 1845.
