Up for sale, a 2000 Fender American Vintage '62 Jaguar Yamano limited edition model in 100% original condition, complete with the original G&G hardshell case. An extremely rare example of the American Vintage series Jaguar offered exclusively via Fender's distribution deal with Yamano in Japan over 20 years ago, this guitar features a custom color Burgundy Mist gloss nitro lacquer finish and matching headstock.

The production totals for the American Vintage Jaguar models were notably small in the first years of production (Jaguars were first added to the line in 1999), and this instrument captures the feel and tonal properties of a Pre-CBS example with a tonewood complement comprising an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, yielding an extremely resonant, detailed, and broad natural acoustic tone.

Plugged in, this Jag delivers the goods, retaining the original pair of black bobbin single coil pickups with lightly beveled flat-pole alnico magnets. The American Vintage '62 pickups are a bit rounder and fuller in the midrange than later Fender Jag pickup winds, retaining plenty of twang and snap in the top end, with the slightly aggressive chime and sinewy snarl that sets this model apart. Offering plenty of sparkling cut and percussive snap, this Jaguar is quite versatile. Engage the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn for darker, meatier tones, or flip the "strangle" switch in the Lead Circuit for thinner tic-tac sounds. Top it off with copious chrome and a flip-up string mute and you have the model that was Fender's flagship guitar when it was introduced in '62, with every bell and whistle Leo Fender and his team could think to include. This Jaguar weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Offset Fender instruments, strung with 11-49 roundwound strings and dialed in for low action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled edges, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. The guitar conforms to traditional Fender spec with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, 1.650" nut width, and 24" scale length. The slab rosewood fretboard retains the stock slender fretwire which shows only faint wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-6. The guitar plays well in every register up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The Burgundy Mist-finished headstock boasts the Jaguar waterslide decal, with Kluson-style tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The neck heel is pencil dated July 6th, 2000, and the heel and pocket have numerous factory stamps dating the instrument to 2000.

All of the electronics work as they should, the chrome plating on the hardware is positively gleaming, and the string mute engages easily. The vibrato works extremely well for small surfy shimmies or deeper dives, jumping back to the original pitch with ease and setup so that there's proper break angle between the bridge and tailpiece for optimal stability and minimal string slippage.

The nitro lacquer Burgundy Mist gloss finish is accented by the original pickguard, more parchment in its coloration than the grayish mint green guards more commonly seen on this model in early years, and exhibiting some pick scuffing on the treble side of the guard. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to some small scattered dings on the body as a whole, largely on the back, and some light finish scratches in the clear coat on the back as well, but well shy of “buckle rash.” The lightly ambered nitro lacquer gloss on the profile is flawless.

The original brown tolex G&G hardshell case with gold plush interior is included.
