Very good, Bright gilt titles on covers, exquisite tooled leather boards, five raised bands and six compartments to spine with gilt detailing and titles, filigree gilt turn ins, satin end-papers and paste-downs. Boards bow somewhat, show wear/stains, touch of wear to exterior hinges, small discreetly and professionally repaired split to lower front/back hinge of vol. 2. Pretty much an equal amount of staining/toning to all end-papers, pages tanned with scattered foxing, no loose or missing pages, these are large heavy books and should be handled with care. A fine example of an extraordinary antique set.
