I make my reeds to play easily yet have a very layered and warm/dark tone quality. I have played for some of the biggest conductors in the world including John Williams, Michael Tilson Thomas, Gustavo Dudamel. You need the reed to do some of the work for you! I attended the Colburn Conservatory and My teachers included Allan Vogel, Melanie Wilsden, Elaine Douvas and Richard Woodhams.
