1861 Magee & George 50 Cents Banknote
Confederate New Orleans, Louisiana Issue

Magee and George was a noted company in New Oreleans, Louisiana that made equipment for the Confederate Army, including various leather ammunition pouches that are highly sought after by militaria and Civil War relic collectors. This 50 Cent bank note was issued by the company on December 16, 1861, during the Confederate administration of New Orleans. Notes of any type issued during the Confederate administration of the city are rather rare, because the city was only in Confederate hands until May of 1862 when it fell to Union Admiral David Farragut's forces. I have seen only a couple of other auction records for this type and denomination in the past ten years, with one of the examples dated "1862" instead of 1861. Larger denomination notes by this issuer are much more common than the 50 cent issue offered here.

This note is well circulated, but intact with only minor edge issues and one pinhole as can be seen in the photos
