ROYAL DOULTON ADVERTISING FIGURINE - "PICK UP A PENGUIN" MCVITIE'S BISCUITS

Penguin biscuits were first produced in 1932 by William McDonald, a biscuit manufacturer in Glasgow and were one of the first biscuits to be advertised by brand name rather than company. It became the McVitie's brand when McDonald joined with McVitie's and Price, MacFarlane Long & Co and Crawford to form United Biscuits in 1946.

The Penguin TV commercials featuring a giant Emperor Penguin were first made in the 1970's and had the voice of Derek Nimmo stuttering the Immortal catch phrase 'P..p..p...Pick up a ... Penguin' earned them a place in advertising history.
