PCA9685 16-Channel 12-bit PWM Servo Driver
- new model with beefier polarity-protection transistor

You want to make a cool robot, maybe a hexapod walker, or maybe just a piece of art with a lot of moving parts.
Or maybe you want to drive a lot of LEDs with precise PWM output.
Driving servo motors with the Arduino Servo library is pretty easy, but each one consumes a precious pin - not to mention some Arduino processing power.
This 16-Channel 12-bit PWM/Servo driver module, based on the Adafruit design, will drive up to 16 servos over I2C with only 2 pins.
The on-board PWM controller will drive all 16 channels simultaneously with no additional Arduino processing overhead.
What's more, you can chain up to 62 of them to control up to 992 servos - all with the same 2 pins.
Using only two pins, control 16 free-running PWM outputs! You can even chain up 62 breakouts to control up to 992 PWM outputs.

If you are driving a lot of servos from a power supply that dips a lot when the servos move, then there is a spot on the PCB for soldering in an electrolytic capacitor.
This is dependent on servo current draw, the torque on each motor, and the type of power supply.
We supply a 1000uF 10V electrolytic capacitor. Please note the positive & negative terminals when soldering the capacitor.

The base I2C address for the module is 0x40 with none of the A0-A5 jumpers in place.
If you wanted to add a 2nd board, you would jumper the two solder pads of A0 with a blob of solder or a 0 ohm resistor or similar which would make the address of the 2nd board 0x41:
Board 0:  Address 0x40, no jumpers
Board 1:  Address 0x41,  jumper A0
Board 2:  Address 0x42, jumper A1
Board 3:  Address 0x43, jumper A0 & A1 and so on

Features:
This board/chip uses I2C 7-bit address between 0x40-0x7F, selectable with jumpers
It's an i2c-controlled PWM driver with a built in clock. That means that, unlike the TLC5940 family, you do not need to continuously send it signal tying up your microcontroller, its completely free running!
It is 5V compliant, which means you can control it from a 3.3V microcontroller and still safely drive up to 6V outputs (this is good for when you want to control white or blue LEDs with 3.4+ forward voltages)
6 address select pins so you can wire up to 62 of these on a single i2c bus, a total of 992 outputs - that's a lot of servos or LEDs
Adjustable frequency PWM up to about 1.6kHz
12-bit resolution for each output - for servos, that means about 4us resolution at 60Hz update rate
Configurable push-pull or open-drain output
Output enable pin to quickly disable all the outputs
Terminal block for power input (or you can use the 0.1" breakouts on the side)
Reverse polarity protection on the terminal block input. The terminal block included with your product may be blue or black.
Green power-good LED
3 pin connectors in groups of 4 so you can plug in 16 servos at once (Servo plugs are slightly wider than 0.1" so you can only stack 4 next to each other on 0.1" header
Daisy-chain design
A spot to place a capacitor on the V+ line (in case you need it)
220 ohm series resistors on all the output lines to protect them, and to make driving LEDs trivial
Solder jumpers for the 6 address select pins
Dimensions : 62.5 x 25.4 x 3 mm (no headers or terminal block)
Weight : ~5.5g (no headers or terminal block)

Package includes:
1x PCA9685 16 Channel Servo I2C Module
1x Header Set
1x Terminal Connector
1x 1000uF 10V Electrolytic capacitor
