ROWE, Cosmo.

An early Autograph Letter Signed ‘Cosmo Rowe’, to Grant Reid, agreeing to find or do a sketch for his collection. 1 page 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, 4 August 1897.

Cosmo Rowe (1877-1952), born William John Monkhouse Rowe, but always known as Cosmo, painter and illustrator. Cosmo was a friend of H.G. Wells and William Morris.  Rowe provided the illustrations for Wells's 'War of the Worlds'.  Rowe was Literature Secretary of Morris's Hammersmith Socialist Society, as well as painter of the sign which hung outside the room where the Society met. He also worked in the United States.
