Each punch is made from brand-new, 5/8-inch round, 5160 spring steel. The end of each ball punch is forged to an approximate 3/8-inch diameter, and then polished to a nice radius with a scotch-bright belt (equivalent to 220 grit.)
Each punch is approximately 9-inches long and is intended to be used as a hand-held forging tool. The working surface is polished with a scotch-bright belt (equivalent to 220 grit.)
The punch is intended for use on hot steel and is not hardened and tempered. The natural resilience of 5160 spring steel makes this tool extremely tough, and it will give you many years of good service in its intended use!
This tool is great for accentuating animal head jaws, controlled stock spreading and distribution, screw dimples on hooks and hanger, flower decorations, stock decorations, and a host of other processes, limited only by your personal imagination and creativity.
