Important Unique Urban Jurgensen, No. 11: very fine 18 k gold pocket watch minute repeater, dead beat independent stoppable seconds with early lever escapement from Urban's experimental period 1809.

Case.  open face, form Empire, with fluted band and engine turned " grains d'orge" pattern, hidden hinges, gilt cuvette engraved with watch details in danish (minute repeteer watch, Frie anchor escapement med Stone holes, uafhaenigt Sekundvaerk, traekes op til hoire), in englisch “minute repeater, free anchor escapement with jeweled holes, independent second movement, winding to the right” and signed and dated Urban Jürgensensen fecit, 1808. 9

The case is in nice condition with fine scratches, the guilloche is very nicely preserved, two small cracks at case edge near the pendant. The case has no hallmarks or numbers of any kind.

White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions, original blued steel moon hands, jumping center second hand, dial and hands are in very nice undamaged condition.

The mineral crystal is also in very good condition.

23"' ligne movement, signed under the dial "UI. 11 1809" (Urban Jürgensen No. 11, Anno 1809). Gilt brass, solid plate with cylindrical pillars, double mainspring barrel with going barrels, early side lever escapement after Pouzait, brass escape wheel with upright teeth, polished steel pallet anchor, smooth three-arm steel balance, diamond cap stone and flat balance spring. Repeating on two gongs by pressing the pendant. Independent seconds operated by a lever at 4 o'clock under the bezel. The movement is in very good working condition.

Signed and dated on the cuvette and on the front plate under the dial. The overall condition is very nice.

In the Danish first edition of the "Juergensen Book" on page 128 is a watch, No. 232, with an identical case, this was hallmarked by Juergensen with 18k UI and crown, according to Urban's personal records this watch was sold in 1813. The UI mark was only used on cases and movements made in the company's own workshop.
