Perhaps one of the most impactful, celebrated, and influential fashion collections on the industry as a whole is John Galliano's namesake label for Fall Winter 1994.

John Galliano was out of cash and sleeping on the floor at a friend’s flat in early 1994. Led by Andre Leon Talley, industry insiders banded together to get John new backers and a showspace to present this label during the Fall 1994 Paris Fashion Week –as missing one more show calendar could have meant the closure of his label. 

Presented in the Left Bank hôtel particulier of the Paris hostess São Schlumberger, John Galliano presented a career-making collection that fused the East and West of Japanese kimonos and glamorous 1940s-style tailoring. Due to a lack of funds for materials and time, John Galliano chose to invest in a bolt of black satin-back crepe, which was inexpensive, lightweight. One side was smooth and the other side was rough. Galliano used both sides to create the illusions that he had fabric more than he actually did. 

John Galliano's Fall 1994 collections is now widely regarded as one of the defining moments in fashion history. Attendees' often well up in tears describing the decadence and living poetry of having been in the room. The success of the collection resulted in his later jobs at Givenchy and Christian Dior where his designs no doubt shaped the entire luxury fashion industry for over a decade. 

Very good condition. Light wear / pulls to the fabric on the front that's consistent with the age and the delicate nature of the silk. Wear on the silk-wrapped buttons, especially the ones near the wrist.
