TRUE STORY: ESPIONAGE & BETRAYAL IN THE COLD WAR

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ASTOUNDING STORIES to come out of the Cold War between the West and the Soviet Union.  It reads like a popular spy novel but every word of it is true - a story of espionage and betrayal told by a top-level American journalist David E Hoffman, winner of a Pulitzer Prize.

  • It is the tale of an agent who cracked open the Soviet military research establishment - an account set against the background of the work done by the CIA's Moscow Station at a time when the old Communist regime was falling apart and in its final years.  The dangerous spy game between Moscow and the West has broken out anew in recent years.  This book provides a riveting insight into that murky and lethal world.

THE BOOK ON OFFER HERE IS IN GOOD CONDITION.  It has been read but the pages are clean and crisp. Deep in the narrative there are two dog-eared pages. Otherwise it is fresh.  The binding is firm and square and we have protected the unclipped dust-jacket with a Brodart plastic cover.  There are no signs of previous ownership such as an inscription or bookplate.

  • There are numerous black-and-white illustrations (see above).  In addition to a general index, the author has provided full source notes.   This book has been widely praised by the author's peers, one of whom David Ignatius wrote: "David Hoffman has written one of the best real-life spy stories ever told."
