Mountain Equipment have developed the Matrix sleeping bags to be as light as possible, have the smallest pack size yet still offer reliable insulation even in the most exposed situations. They have cleverly combined Down and Synthetic insulation to provide the ultimate solution for use in damp and wet conditions.
The top of the Matrix sleeping bag is insulated with the Bluesign approved 725 fill power water resistant down. This is a high-quality duck-down, sourced from China with an actual minimum down cluster content of 90% that has been treated with a water-repellent Bluesign approved Teflon treatment to allow the down filaments to resist moisture and dry faster. The base of the Matrix is insulated with the superb Primaloft synthetic fibres which are impervious to water and will retain warmth even when wet and dry out extremely quickly. Primaloft mimics the compressibility of down and is highly breathable, allowing moisture vapour to be transported through the fibres and away from the body.
All this highly technical insulation is encapsulated in lightweight and ultra-compressible Helium fabric. The densely woven structure of super fine yarns ensure these fabrics are down proof, tear resistant and highly breathable. A series of technical baffles ensure that the insulation stays where its needed to achieve the optimum insulation according to the needs of the user and the foot section uses 4 trapezoid baffles to surround your feet with warmth and to minimise weight.
A high percentage of your body heat is lost through your head so Mountain Equipment have developed the DC5 hood which uses 5 baffles to create a lightweight and anatomical structure to surround your head with luxurious warmth. The clever Solus collar and baffle uses a single anti-snag draft tube and semi-floating neck collar and features a wider and deeper baffle chamber to improve stability and maximise loft making it the perfect combination of warmth versus weight.
No matter how much technology you build into a bag its fundamental shape is critical, if a bag is just too big and baggy it will be inefficient so M.E have used their Alpine Fit for the Matrix that has a tapered lower leg area for improved efficiency and weight reduction. The three quarter side zip allows easy access and also helps to keep the weight down.
