In 1992, the US Postal Service issued a sheet of fifty colorful, blooming native plants in Columbus, Ohio, host city for the AmeriFlora '92 International Floral and Garden Exposition.  Each state is a habitat for at least one of the wildflowers pictured. 

A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847.  Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number.  The Stream Violet is Scott No. 2655.
