JAGUAR 'CROSBY' MASCOT ON WOODEN BASE

An extremely rare Jaguar bonnet mascot, designed by the artist, Frederick Gordon Crosby in 1938.  This design, commissioned
by Jaguar (or SS Jaguar as it was then known) differs from the later (Version 2) mascot in that the rear legs are in a crouching position
as opposed to being in line with the body.  This 'Version 1' mascot was fitted to the MK V Jaguar models atop the radiator cap and was
available until production of that model car ceased in 1951.

Pre-war versions were made from  'pot-metal' which was basically a mix of all sorts of aluminium derived metals and was very
susceptible to pimpling as the trapped air escaped. As a result very early versions suffered terribly and not many good examples have
survived (they weighed less than the post war ones, at around 535g, as opposed to around 660g for post-war)

This particular item weighs 658g and, therefore, is probably post-war. It does have some minor pimpling, as can be seen in the
photographs, but still presents really well (bear in mind she is about 70 years of age - lol !)

Length of mascot (nose to tail  -  20cm (8")

                                                                              Base  -  23cm (9") X 13cm (5")
