Vintage bohemian German flatweave silk kilim rug carpet or area runner rug in red and blue. The carpet has a nice velvety texture with a short pile. The top layer is very soft and silky to the touch.
Produced in East Germany in the 60-70s at the factory "VEB Möbelstoff- und Plüschwerke" in the federal state of Saxony in the city of Karl-Marx-Stadt ((1953 - 1990) now Chemnitz).

In my opinion it's okay to put this area rug on a carpet! Enhance your decor with an area rug on another area rug for a layered look) In fact, put an area rug on top of a larger area rug! One reason is for aesthetics. Area rugs can bring in complementary colors to make your decor more cohesive.
There are also practical reasons. An area rug on top of a carpet covers up and protects worn down carpet fibers or stains. Area rugs can give more comfort to bare feet, help to muffle or reduce noise from adjoining apartments. See the last photo for examples of the interior.
