From 1998 - 2000, the US Postal Service released a 10 sheet series called "Celebrate the Century."  This was a limited-edition set of commemorative stamps highlighting the most significant people, events, and accomplishments of the 20th century.  A page was created for each decade, with the final sheet, the 1990's, issued on January 12, 2000.   This 33c stamp spotlights the 1951 National League Pennant Race when Bobby Thomson won the series for the New York Giants with a 3 run home run in the 9th inning.

A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. These stamps have been designated as Scott Number 3187c.
