A group of first editions of Thomas Graham Jackson's studies into Byzantine and Romanesque Architecture in two volumes and The Renaissance of Roman Architecture in three volumes concerning Italy, England, and France. In the original publisher's uniform quarter paper vellum bindings.
T. G. Jackson was a prominent architect in his generation, best remembered for his work at Oxford including Oxford Military College at Cowley, most of Hertford College including the famous Bridge of Sighs, and the university's Examination Schools among others.
The present volumes contain a fascinating and detailed account of Roman architecture and its development.
Illustrated with numerous plans and figures in text as well as with one-hundred and sixty five full page plates to Byzantine and Romanesque Architecture, and one-hundred and seventy-seven plates to The Renaissance of Roman Architecture, some in colour. Collated, complete.
CONDITION
In the original publisher's uniform quarter paper vellum bindings over cloth covered boards, titles in gilt to morocco spine label. Externally generally smart with minor shelf wear, spine darkened particularly to Byzantine and Romanesque Architecture volumes, lightly rubbed to spine. Previous ownership ink inscriptions to endpapers, dated 1925 and 1935. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
