DESCRIPTION

The first edition.

In full red cloth binding with gilt lettering.

With an illustrated title page, colour portrait frontispiece and numerous vignette illustrations throughout. In addition to 47 full page illustrations, some of which are in colour and printed on handmade paper. Collated complete.

An autobiography by the French painter and caricaturist, Adolphe Willette. Willette is best known as the architect of the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret. His graphical works made Pierrot, the pantomime character, a fictional hero of France.

With a bookplate to the front paste down and stamp to the front free endpaper from the Royal College of Art in London.


CONDITION

In full cloth binding. Externally, excellent with light shelf wear to the edges and some fading to the spine. Book stamp to the front paste-down and library stamp to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned to the edges but otherwise very bright and clean. Closed tear to the bottom of page 37.
