In the publisher's original cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrappers.

E. Phillips Oppenheim's first and second 'Puzzle Box' short story collections. Featuring titles such as, 'The Lady in the Grey Wig', 'The Phantom Fleet', and, 'The Sphinx Whispered'.

E. Phillips Oppenheim was an English novelist best known for his successful genre fiction, with over 100 novels published between 1887 and 1943. In 1927 he featured on the cover of Time magazine.

With four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the first volume.

Both with the half title pages.

Ink inscription from the previous owners dated 1942, to the front free endpaper.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear to the edges. Light fading to the spine. A few marks to the boards of volume two. Light staining to the rear board of volume two. Scattered spots to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Offsetting to the free endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper of volume two. Bookseller's label to the front paste-down of volume two. The original unclipped dust wrappers are in smart condition. Shelf wear to the edges and spine. Handling marks to the panels. Darkening to the corners. A few small closed tears to the edges. Chipping to the edges of volume two, with some loss to the spine. Staining to the inside of the dust wrapper for volume two. Circular cut out to the spine of volume two. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned to the edges but otherwise very bright and clean. Some scattered handling marks and spots in volume two. Offsetting to the half title page in volume two.
