Derris scandens Benth. is well-known as an Asian medicinal plant and an important source of bioactive compounds. Derris scandens Benth. locally Thai called “Tao-Wan-Priang”, is a climbing shrub and is widely distributed throughout Southeast Asia, including India, Malaysia, China and Thailand. Derris scandens (Roxb.) Benth. has been used as active ingredient in Thai traditional medicine recipes for pain treatment. Dry stem powder and ethanolic extract also recommended in Thailand National List of Essential Medicines (NLEMs) for musculoskeletal pain treatment as herbal medicine.
Derris scandens has been used in Thai Traditional Medicine (TTM) for generations as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory in the treatment of rheumatic and arthritic conditions. This plant’s mechanism of action has only recently been discovered through scientific research, and it has proven to be effective in treating degenerative ailments, such as high blood pressure, and pain in general, without causing any side effects to the people who consume it.
