This is Hugh Falkus's short story about sea trout, not to be confused with his technical manual, Sea Trout Fishing: A Guide to Success. This story was originally published in 1965 in The Angler's Bedside Book. It was re-issued in its present form as a standalone book in 1987 to commemorate the author's 70th year and the 25th anniversary of his seminal work on sea trout fishing. This edition was limited to only 1,000 copies, each signed by the author, and has become quite scarce. It is a short story, the text itself covering only twelve pages, but is certainly some of the author's finest writing, indeed it is some of the finest fly-fishing writing to be found anywhere.

"...This superbly written story of an intensely moving experience is the closest thing to poetry that he has written. Here, on his own river, amid excitement and suspense, is revealed to him his real feelings and personal philosophy. The four engravings by Christopher Wormell are printed from his original wood blocks together with the text, which has been printed by letterpress at The September Press." (Publisher's blurb).
