Up for sale, a 1980 Gibson Les Paul Standard in perfect working order with the original Ebony gloss nitro lacquer finish and chainsaw case. The three-piece carved maple top, solid (non-sandwich) mahogany body, and maple neck deliver the classic range of sounds indicative of this tonewood combination, with incredible clarity and warmth. Loaded with an original pair of T Top humbuckers, the bridge pickup delivers round, chiming tones with a hint of growl and great cut, while the middle position on the three-way toggle has an ideal rhythm sound, especially with the neck pickup rolled back just a touch. The neck position humbucker has warmth and woof without sacrificing detail, providing a perfect lead sound and a sweetness that lends itself to complex chord voicings. This Les Paul weighs 9lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The three-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with appreciable additional heft further up the fretboard, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl trapezoid inlays and the original medium jumbo frets with their wide/flat factory fret dress. The frets have good meat, showing light, consistent wear beneath the strings on frets 1-7, with wear growing even fainter until fret 11. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The upgraded carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the "Standard" truss rod cover is intact, with three additional small truss rod cover mounting holes from a previous (non-original cover) that has since been removed. The headstock features the original clean nickel-plated Gibson flower tuners which have large metal tulip buttons, turning smoothly and holding pitch well. The electronics include an original T Top humbucker pair with patent number-embossed baseplates and clean ink stamps from October and December, 1979. The harness has untouched solder joints, featuring the quartet of original CTS pots with date codes from the 39th week of '79. The hardware includes the original chrome Nashville bridge and vintage Gibson TP-6 tailpiece, and stock plastics comprise the cream pickup rings, switch surround, and pickguard, along with a set of modern black speed knobs. The gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, and the top is extremely clean, with only a few pinhead-sized marks. There is significant buckle rash across the back, with some additional small dings and scuffs on the back and body perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, free of palm wear. A vintage Gibson molded "chainsaw" case is included.
