In 1990, the United States Postal Service issued a four stamp series, Classic Films, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Academy Awards - the Oscars.

This 25c stamp shown here features the 1939 movie, Stagecoach, an American Western film directed by John Ford, starring Claire Trevor and John Wayne in his first major starring role.   Lauded as one of the most influential movies ever made and preserved by the Library of Congress in 1995, it fared poorly in the 1940's Oscars.  It was nominated for seven awards, but only won 2 - best supporting actor, Thomas Mitchell,  and best music scoring.

The stamp features the young Ringo Kid, played by John Wayne.  The foreground shows the stagecoach and the background portrays Monument Valley, the locale.

This stamp is displayed in a 3.75 by 4.75 inch wood frame.  Please indicate what color you prefer:  walnut, white,  or black.  If no color is chosen, walnut will be sent.

A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. This stamp has been designated as Scott Number 1264..
