More about these stamps:  This beautifully vintage stamp is from the 1982 State Bird and Flower series.   The designers of the stamps were the father and son team Arthur and Alan Singer of Jericho, New York.  Arthur designed the birds, while son Alan drew the flowers.   Here is the thirty-seventh stamp in the series - Oregon - with its state bird the Western Meadowlark and the state flower the Oregon Grape.

A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. These stamps have been designated as Scott Number 1989.
