A very substantial board of character / rustic grade sapele that has been planed on all 4 sides. Sapele is a beautiful red mahogany type timber. Typical of sapele of this grade, the timber may have wild or irregular grain, grain chips, splits, knots, shakes and other characterful features. This particular board has some shakes on each face, as well as end grain shakes that run through the board. Please study the photographs and dimensions carefully to ensure suitability for your project. Boards like this are not suited to processing into smaller components; they should be appreciated for what they are and can work to great effect in the right application.

General Description:
Entandrophragma cylindricum. The species is distributed in East and principally West Africa; particularly Nigeria and the Gold and Ivory Coast regions. The heartwood has a medium to dark reddish-brown colour, characterised by a well defined ribbon striped figuration on quartered surfaces. Sometimes, when wavy grain is present, a very attractive fiddleback figure, roe figure or occasionally, beautifully mottled figure is obtained. The weight varies between 560-690kg/m3.
Uses :
Sapele is one of the best mahogany type timbers, and works without difficulty by either hand or machine tools. It glues well and provides an excellent polished finish.
