6 / French Christofle "Filet" (or "Chinon"), Silverplate Soup Spoons, 1845-1862

As is typical of French soup spoons, these are quite large and moderately heavy - 8 1/2 inches long

Marked on the underside of the handle:    Oval CC mark    56 in diamond (year of manufacture)    CHRISTOFLE in long oval

The oval "CC" mark used on silver-plated Christofle cutlery between 1845 and 1862. The two-digit number within the oval (72) corresponds to the amount of silver, used for the production of two dozen cutlery pieces. The number in the diamond center mark indicates the year of production (two last digits) in the period 1845-1860. After 1860, the number is in a rectangular box.
