How to know if you have a 48RE:
  • The 8th Digit of the VIN is the letter "C" 
  • Check the build label ( usual in the glove box ) for code DG8
  • No modifications needed, all original internal factory parts will fit this HD housing
  • We also include a new output bearing snap ring because the old one is usually worn out
  • Output seal & snap ring will be installed before we ship
  • WILL NOT FIT 47RE


DETAILS ABOUT THE WARRANTY & WHY THESE HOUSINGS CRACK OR BREAK:

The factory housing had a design flaw that caused it to crack where it bolts up to the transmission case. Our housing is design to eliminate that problem.
 
If your OD housing is broken or cracked in the rear half area, especially where the transfer case bolts up, you most likely have a driveline type vibration, loose transfer case mounting bolts or a mount grounding issue of some kind. If the problem is not found you will break it again no matter what housing you install.

Also if the transmission is put in to park while the truck is rolling it can crack the housing.

THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY ON THIS HOUSING ONLY COVERS ANY CRACKS OR BREAKAGE IN THE FRONT HALF OF THE HOUSING.

Any cracks or breakage in the rear half of the housing happened as explained above will void the warranty and is the buyers responsibility.
