Sanchez Garza, the remainder prints the text of a manuscript titled "Resena y diario de la Campana de Texas, por Jose Enrique de la Pena. Matamoros, Tamps. Septiembre 15 de 1836." Jos Enrique de la Pea 9c. 1807-1841) was a lieutenant colonel in the Mexican navy and participant in the battle of the Alamo. This was the first publication of his diary, which was translated and published in English (as With Santa Anna in Texas: A Personal Narrative of the Revolution) in 1975. "Its validity has been debated by historians, and by the latter part of the twentieth century the diary was the subject of heated discourse between those who questioned its credibility and suggested it an elaborate forgery and those who supported its contents. De la Peas diary reveals that Texan hero David Crockett surrendered to Mexican troops and was executed, contrary to the previously-recognized assumption that Crockett died fighting. In addition to revealing a detailed report of the battle of the Alamo from the Mexican perspective, De la Peas account provides deeper insight to the operations of the Mexican army in Texas, descriptions of disagreements between General Santa Anna and his officers, a report of the battle of San Jacinto, and a version of the execution of Col. James Fannin" (Handbook of Texas).

Condition Descriptions Defined: We grade our books and dust jackets using the traditional language of the antiquarian book trade. In brief: Fine is the highest grade and means essentially as new, without visible faults or defects; Near Fine means approaching fine, but with one or more very minor defects or faults, which will be noted; Very Good means the book shows some general (but not too offensive) signs of wear and use, which will be noted; Good means the book is complete and intact, but has more wear or some internal markings. Any ex-library book will be graded no higher than Good, even if it is otherwise a very nice copy. Again, all flaws will be noted. We rarely offer any books in Fair or Poor condition, but if we do, the reasons for the grade will be evident from the photo(s) and description.

Guarantee & Returns: All books are guaranteed as described and can be returned within 30 days for any reason. Please notify us in advance of any return.
