הרב אמזל נולד בירושלים למשפחה הונגרית-ליטאית. למד בישיבת פוניבז' בבני ברק, והיה ידוע כמתמיד וגאון, שם גם התקרב לחסידות סערט ויז'ניץ, כשהגיע לפרקו נישא לבת הרה"צ זאב ארנסטר, ומאז התחיל להתנהג ולהתלבש כבנש"ק לכל דבר.

כ"ק האדמו"ר מסערט ויז'ניץ בעל החכמת אליעזר זצ"ל חיבב אותו ואהבו כנכדו. אמזל הפך עד מהרה לרוח החייה בחסידות והיה נחשב למי שתורה וגדולה סמוכים על שולחנו.

מחד היה לומד בהסתגרות במשך שעות ארוכות ומתפלל כעבד המתחטא לפני קונו ומאידך עסק במסחר וההצלחה האירה לו פנים כשהוא תורם רבות לחסידות וליוזמות צדקה וחסד.
