There is a vertical "paper support", "paper rest", or "paper gauge" found on IBM Selectric III typewriters. Formally, it is called the "Page End Indicator", and it is only found on the Selectric III (NOT THE EARLIER MODELS). Today, they are pretty much all broken. There is a little spring piece of plastic which engages into a little slot, or notch, allowing the Page End Indicator to swing forward, backward, or latch into place in operational upright position during typing. What happens is, the thin plastic spring piece wears out and stops latching, or simply breaks off.

This listing is for a new 3D printed ABS plastic part which can be glued into place, at the end of which is a new "spring" piece to restore functionality of your Page End Indicator. I wanted to make this a complete kit, so it includes the ABS part, a small clamp to hold it in place while adjusting and gluing, and a white plastic spacer piece that is one way to fit it correctly--there was no affordable small epoxy option available, so you will need to use your own glue or epoxy.

Superglue might do the trick, but I recommend to use J-B Weld 50132: https://www.walmart.com/ip/J-B-Weld-PlasticWeld-Epoxy-Syringe-25mL/37572801

Here are the steps to do the repair:

1. Break off the old tab if it is still present, as shown in my photos

2. Learn how this feels when in the right place by putting the piece in place (see photos) and swiveling the paper support back and forth, the end of the ABS part snaps into the notched part.

3. Practice doing this with the clamp. The ABS has a flat side, and a recessed side. Installed, you will be looking at the flat side—the recessed side goes down with the glue! When clamping, use something, a piece of plastic, thick paper, etc., on the “good” side of the paper support so you don’t scratch the finish. Get things kind of in place, *almost* tighten the clamp, then push the ABS part firmly up against and inside of the notch, then tighten the clamp—not too tight or you may break something!

4. Test the rotation and it should click into place, in and out, like in my video.

5. Once you get the hang of it, repeat this process with the glue, patiently waiting as instructed for it to fully cure.

6. ALTERNATE way to do it. The white cylinder spacer can be used as a fitting guide, but to do this you need to punch out the metal pin serving as an axle in the assembly, take it apart, and then put it back together with the white spacer on the axle instead of the original notching part. Then, you can just fit the ABS part against the spacer for correct gluing position. Don’t glue the white cylinder in place!

Please reach out with any questions, best of luck for a new functioning paper rest / Page End Indicator!
