FULL TITLE: A Map of Oxfordshire

Page 139 (continued from page 138) shows the Road from London to Yarmouth continuing from Saxmundeham (Saxmundham) via Cockfield in Yoxford (Yoxford), Blithborough (Blythburgh), Beckles (Beccles) and Lestoff (Lowestoft) to Yarmouth (Great Yarmouth). The plate is embellished with the Armorial Crest of the Earl of Yarmouth as well as copious notes on places of interest along the way. The strip map shows the main road and crossroads leading to various towns along the way. The engraving details the surrounding topography including churches, rivers, bridges, pastures, woods, forests and hills. On each strip is a compass rose showing the direction of travel as well as the distance, in miles, from the start point.

Page 140 shows a Map of Oxfordshire with a description of the County, identifying the Hundreds, the size of the County in acres, the number of Houses, Parishes and Market Towns. The plate is embellished with the Armorial Crest of the Earl of Oxford. Page 140 is also the title page for 'The Road from Bristol to Banbury', the title being enclosed in an ornate cartouche.

The sheet is engraved on both sides. The engraving has distinct plate marks and good margins. The engraving has been washed & pressed by a qualified conservator and is beautifully hand coloured.
