Size 22 mm. OBVERSE: Tortoise with segmented shell, A – I either side.
REVERSE: is a “Skew” patterned incuse square with A –IG in the upper division and dolphin in lower rectangular division.

In the time when Athens started becoming a super power, Aegina no longer was considered a sea force. Thus, since the mid-5th century BC, the island stopped stamping sea turtles on its coins, instead tortoises were used. The tortoise symbolized the decline of Aegina as a naval power.
