Up for sale, a 1980 Greco Super Real EGF1000 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Lifton-style hardshell case. Heralding from the most collectable (and brief) era of Greco production and the pinnacle of Fujigen design, the EGF1000 was one of the highest tiered Super Real models, faithfully capturing the finer points of a circa 1959 Les Paul Standard, with a one-piece mahogany neck, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, carved and bookmatched two-piece figured maple top, and a nitro lacquer Cherry Sunburst finish. At 9lbs 11oz, this Greco dishes out plenty of natural sustain and sonic authority, qualities faithfully captured by the stock pair of USA-made DiMarzio PAF humbuckers with double cream bobbins. These pickups are rich and articulate, with growl and power in the bridge position, balanced by a present, smooth neck pickup. For saturated lead lines that truly sing while being equal parts thick and clear, the neck position humbucker roars, and when both pickups are engaged there's an array of great rhythm tones. This EGF1000 benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a C-shaped profile carve highly representative of Gibson's 1959 model year, chunky yet with less heft than the "baseball bat" carves it succeeded. The profile has round shoulders and appreciably more heft in the higher registers, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and 1.040” at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a notably dark, tight-grained cut, with pearloid trapezoid inlay and fret-edge binding on the pristine stock medium jumbo fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports gold “Super Real Model” silkscreen script, and the Kluson-style Greco Deluxe double-line tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean nickel plating and pearloid keystone buttons. The inked serial number also matches spec for a Burst, dating to 1980. All of the electronics function as intended; the USA-made DiMarzio humbuckers are wired to the stock harness with untouched solder joints and full-size Japanese pots that date to ‘79. The pickup baseplates also have the same style stamps seen on the Maxon pickups used in Grecos of this era, and these stamps date to '79. Original plastics comprise the quartet of gold bonnet knobs, the one-ply cream pickguard, cream pickup rings and switch surround, and amber switch tip. The nickel-plated ABR-1-style bridge and stopbar both have uniform surface patina. The gloss Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights the subtle curly flame figuring extending across the two-piece bookmatched carved maple top, with a vibrant outer band of red framed by ambered binding. Cosmetic wear is limited to a small area of light buckle worming on the back central to the waist and a handful of tiny dings and faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with a few shallow marks behind frets 4-6 that don't distract the palm while fretting. The original Lifton-style hardshell case with brown mottled exterior and pink interior is included.
