This listing is for a dinner plate with a beautiful BLUEBIRD SITTING ON A TREE BRANCH by DAVID STEWART(1930 -2019).  It is from my 50+ year collection and one of my favorite pieces.  The design motif suggests to me that it is an earlier piece and is remarkably strong.  Mr. Stewart was the design assistant to Marguerite Wildenhain(1896-1985) at her school of ceramic design, Pond Farm, in Guerneville, California from 1960 to 1980.  This piece is 9 3/4 inches in diameter by 1 1/2 inches high. Notice the symmetry and composition of this piece as well as the details on the bird's breast and its wing.  The trimming details are very crisp as usual.  One additional bit of information is that the letter shape of the 'S' and the crossing of the two 'T's with one line in Stewart in his signature, as is the case with this piece, imply he signed the back of this piece.  There is often another form of his signature where the "S' has a different shape and the two 'T's are each crossed individually which tells me his assistant signed for him.  This was probably his wife Niva or more probably his daughter Gail.  This is a very strong vibrant example of David Stewart's carving and glazing skills!  Absolutely gorgeous piece of art!  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restorations and It is signed on the back.  (I have included some additional photos of other items I have listed)              (B - 109)
