This is 1 of 4 different German soldiers in the GERMAN INFANTRY HEADQUARTERS DIVISION 1944 series. Made in China by Dragon Models.
Battle of Anzio was part of WWII Italian Campaign during January 22, 1944, to June 5, 1944 (ending with Rome’s capture). Operation was to outflank German forces at Winter Line and enable an attack on Rome. Amphibious landing was a surprise and success. American commander entrench in case of a German counterattack. While American commander consolidated, Germans moved 14th Army to mountainous high ground and pounded landing area with artillery. After a month of heavy but inconclusive fighting, American commander was relieved. Allies broke out in May, but instead of striking inland to cut off German 10th Army units fighting at Monte Cassino, turned north to Rome, which was captured on June 4, 1944. As a result, units of German 10th Army withdrew and rejoined rest of German forces north of Rome, regrouped, and made a fighting withdrawal to next prepared defensive position on Gothic Line.
