A VERY BEAUTIFUL and decorative Japanese sword scabbard of GREEN / BLUE / PURPLE CRUSHED PEARL / ABALONE SHELL and black lacquer to the background. The PHOTOGRAPHS DO NOT DO JUSTICE< AS THE CAMERA FLASH BOUNCES THE LIGHT ( making it whitish and dull ), IN THE HAND IT IS A DEEPER RICH COLOUR, COULD NOT BE BETTER !!!!.................. The crushed shell work is most impressive and truly a work of art ! ......... The Kurikata, koi guchi etc appear to be horn..................The saya weighs approx 220grams, and approx 745mm long ( just over 29 and a quarter inches ), measured following the curve ( sori ) at the mid centre line of the scabbard. ....... Generally in great condition for age and solid !!!  It has had old black lacquer repairs and 'touch ups' along the saya joint seam, and very slight hairline cracks to the lacquer, and the usual wear, scuffs, scratches ( one about 15mm long ), slight dents, lacquer losses all to be expected, but generally great for a two hundred year old saya !!!.............Also a slot for a kozuka  or kogai approx 13mm wide ( pretty standard ) .................. I bought this direct from Japan, many years ago, so long I cant remember !!! ........ .........The curvature ( sori ) when the scabbard is stood on a flat surface measures approx 22mm to the underside......the koi guchi ( mouth opening to take the sword blade ) is approx 30mm max ( I think the koi guchi may have been replaced years ago, and there is a little scope to slightly file out larger if required ) and 12mm wide max... ...............I am very accurate with measurements, all given in good faith !!!................... Fitted to the correct sword, it would look truly impressive !!!.............PLEASE NOTE - The sword stand ( and anything in the background ) is NOT INCLUDED in the sale, you are BIDDING on the SWORD SCABBARD ( SAYA ) ONLY !!! .............. Please see my other interesting items !!!
