Mother Greville Sapphire Fringe Earrings.
As the
name implies, these charming earrings belonged to Queen Elizabeth the Queen
Mother. The
fringe detail, plus the combination of round and baguette diamonds are typical
of the Art Deco period. The faceted sapphire set in the centre of each earring
is a gorgeous deep blue colour.
The Queen
Mother wore the earrings at a reception for the Prince of Wales at Buckingham
Palace in November 1998. She complemented the earrings with a triple-stranded
pearl necklace and the Duchess of Teck’s Flower Brooch.
More
recently the earrings have been worn by Kate, Princess of Wales, who began
wearing them when she was still the Duchess of Cambridge. In June 2019, she
wore the earrings for a state banquet at Buckingham Palace, pairing them with
Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara and her own Oak Leaf Brooch. In December 2021
Catherine again choose the earrings for her community carol service at
Westminster Abbey.
