Up for sale, a 1998 Tom Anderson Guitarworks Classic in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags and ephemera. Tom Anderson guitars have a decades old well-earned reputation for no-corners-cut quality and master workmanship, appearing in the hands of artists including Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, and Kirk Hammett, to name just a few. This particular design is the Classic, introduced shortly after the iconic Pro Am (the first Anderson guitar ever released); the Classic takes the best qualities from Leo Fender’s classic S-Style design and combines it with a bevy of modern, player friendly features including a satin neck finish, Grover locking tuners, a 12” fretboard radius, and Tom Anderson's VA single coils. The tonewood complement includes an alder body and a one-piece hard rock maple neck, and acoustically this guitar is notably resonant and lively-sounding. The sought after VA pickups deliver a bevy of classic Strat-esque tonalities; the VA1 neck pickup has a bell-like throaty fullness, the VA2 bridge pickup has a sparkling cut, and engaging either pickup in tandem with the VA1R middle pickup (at the in-between positions on the five-way selector switch) offers hollow quack. Additionally, the push/pull Tone pot knob engaged the neck pickup, unlocking all 7 available pickup combinations. Featherweight at 6lbs 14oz, this Classic has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The one-piece maple neck has a medium soft V-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. The 22 fret maple fretboard has a modern 12” radius, and the jumbo fretwire (catalog: “Heavy”) is in great shape, with well-rounded crowns that only exhibit a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-9. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 5/8“ in width. On the headstock, the Grover Locking Mini Rotomatic tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The four-bolt neck plate is hand-engraved with “Made in California” and dated to 6-7-98. All of the electronics function as intended, and the stock harness is untouched; the pickups are governed by a five-way pickup selector switch with Master Volume and Tone controls, and the push/pull Add Neck switch (for positions 1 and 2) is located at the Tone pot. The pickup baseplates retain their Tom Anderson Guitarworks stickers, and the one visible CTS pot code dates to '97. The chrome-plated hardware is notably clean, including the dome-topped knurled knobs and two-point vibrato with block saddles. Plastics comprise the switch tip, pickup covers, and gently yellowed four-ply dimensional white pearloid pickguard. The gloss Translucent Cherry finish is exceptionally clean, with cosmetic wear limited to a scant few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate. The original hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags, spec sheet, and various pieces of ephemera.
