DATED 1788 CONNECTICUT COLONIAL COPPER COIN! INSCRIBED: “INDE ET LIB”

A sharp relief legend  surrounds a regal portrait stating, “AUCTORI (by authority of) CONNEC.

On the reverse: Liberty is seated holding an olive sprig and a spear, with a shield at her side.

IN DE ET LIB (Independence and Liberty) are the legend circumscribing

the perimeter of the coin with the date, 1788, beneath.

Measures about an inch across.

The mint for these coins was awarded to Samuel Bishop in 1785.

I grade it as a nice fine, noting there are smoothed out details from use and age.

The legends grade very fine. Overall the surface while smooth and worn from age in places,

 is nicely patinated and lustrous.
