He was awarded a Fellowship by the Royal Society of Edinburgh(FRSE), Scotland's national academy of science and letters, after being judged as “eminently distinguished in his subject.” He was also made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, the senior antiquarian body of Scotland, elected for his outstanding scholarship, as well as his interest and involvement in Scotland's past.

BOOK #3 - The Poetical Works of Robert Burns, With Notes, Glossary, and Chronological Table of His Life and Works

Robert Burns (1759-1796),also known as Rabbie Burns by those who were familiar with him, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He was widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets writing in the Scots language, although he often used a “light Scots dialect” accessible to English-speaking audiences beyond Scotland. He was regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement, and after his death he became a great cultural icon among the Scottish people around the world.

Burns also collected folk songs from across Scotland, as well as making original compositions. His “Auld Lang Syne” may be his most well-known poem and song.
