The vibrant limp red leather-bound boards and spine are intact and robust. They are in a good condition for a book which is nearly 100 years old. There is just bumping to the corners, light scratches, fading to the leather on the spine and just a little wear, more-so to the edges and corners. On the front board there is a beautiful gold gilt illustration in a circular border of an elephant and a Hindu good luck symbol. Rudyard Kipling was Anglo-Indian and was strongly influenced by Indian Culture. There are also highly ornate gilt decorations and lettering the spine.

The inside of this book is in a good condition. The pages are top edged gilt, which is a wonderful finish. They are lightly tanned, with darker tanned endpapers, and are in an overall neat and clean state, with only the very occasional small mark. The majority of the pages are uncreased, with only light creases on a couple of pages. On the edge of page 123 and overleaf there is a very small hole (please see the photo). This is minimal and does not obscure the text. There is only a small rip at the bottom edge of page 267 and overleaf (please see the photo provided) are no further rips to the pages. There are no pen or pencil marks inside this book. The binding is mostly tight, and there is only a light crack to the side of the last page of text (page 301). There are no loose or missing pages. All 301 pages are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description.

This stunning book, by an iconic author, brings together a collection of short stories by Rudyard Kipling, an English author and poet best known for his works set in India during the British Raj. The book was first published in 1909 and contains a series of tales that explore various themes such as human nature, morality, and the consequences of one's actions.
