Vintage Ehlbert Products Chicago Embossed Art Deco Expandable Accordian File from the 1930s Materials: Faux Leather,
Green ribbon Ties, Printed Card Stock.
This interior of this fancy vintage Art Deco era accordion style
"Favorite Series 2634" personal file folder was manufactured by C & C, Cooke
& Cobb of NY who patented the design in 1928. Cooke & Cobb
acted as "Manufacturers to the Stationery Trade", and this piece carries
the name of Chicago based stationery company Ehlbert Products who
operated at 854 West Adams Street. The exterior was made by Ehlbert and
features has a dark brown faux leatherette cover with ornate embossed
floral and foliate decoration consisting of a red octagonal medallion
flanked by two large gold rectangles. The spine bears the embossed
words "PERSONAL FILE" in a gold cartouche. The folder has green fabric
ties designed to keep it securely closed. The inside of the folder
features thick paper dividers labeled to sort documents alphabetically
or by month.
The folder is in good vintage condition showing
signs of wear consisting of cracking mainly on the corners and spine
which are consistent with age and use. The accordion-style interior
separators are free of tears and staining and look in perfect condition. The file folder measures 10"
by 8.25" and the spine is 1.5" wide.
