Christophe Louis Léon Juchault de Lamoricière
Général et homme politique français (Nantes 1806-château de Prouzel, près d'Amiens, 1865).
Polytechnicien, officier du génie, à la tête des zouaves, il prend part à toutes les affaires importantes et devient une figure légendaire de l'armée d'Afrique. Chef du premier bureau arabe, il est colonel après la prise de Constantine (1837). Il est lieutenant général en 1843. La soumission d'Abd el-Kader en 1847 sera le couronnement de ses efforts.
Député de Mamers, ministre de la Guerre (juin 1848), vice-président de l'Assemblée législative, adversaire de la politique du prince-président, il est arrêté lors du coup d'État du 2 décembre 1851 puis exilé pendant 7 ans. En 1860, il se met au service du pape pour défendre les États et l'Église contre le Piémont. Vaincu à Castelfidardo, il est contraint de capituler à Ancône.
