Wonderful amber shard necklace.
This is a wonderful Baltic amber necklace with beautiful shards of amber.
The necklace is 22" long approximately with the smooth amber shards 17.2 mm wide approximately and with a weight of 65.3 grams.
The amber has a beautiful butterscotch colouring to it and has a metal bolt ring clasp.
Amber is a 40-60 million year old fossil resin of extinct pine trees. The ancient Romans, Greeks and Egyptians took difficult treks to the Baltic sea coast to acquire amber for use as jewellery and used in medicines. The Romans believed contact with the stone guaranteed a youthful look. It is believed that rubbing the back of the neck, the wrist and temples with amber where the pulse is felt may help in heart and circulatory diseases as well as headaches and tiredness
