The stereo attachment in a cast aluminum housing divides the normal 35mm image into two portrait-format partial images. The two glass prisms direct the beam path through the lens onto the film in such a way that the two partial images are recorded with the sides swapped. Since the pages change again when copying onto slide film, the two partial images do not have to be swapped. The attachment is attached to a carrier in the shoe for the rangefinder and can be easily removed to the front to adjust the lens aperture.

Since the Leica was designed as a system camera from the start, a separate stereo viewer for the filmstrips was also offered in addition to the stereo attachment.
