Also known as the 'Godzilla Mushroom', the King Stropharia is a magnificent fungus that can reach heights of up to 20 cm. Its cap, ranging from reddish-brown and convex to flattening, can span an impressive 30 cm in diameter. As it matures, the gills transition from a pale hue to grey, culminating in a rich dark purple-brown color. The flesh is firm and white, mirroring the tall stem which boasts a distinctive wrinkled ring—a feature that inspired its specific epithet, 'wrinkled-ringed'.

This species thrives on wood chips and bark mulch, gracing North America with its presence in the summer and autumn seasons. Some authors describe it as exceptionally tasty. Cultivating the King Stropharia is a straightforward process, requiring a medium similar to its natural habitat. Antonio Carluccio, a renowned expert in culinary mycology, suggests either sautéeing them in butter or grilling for a delectable culinary experience.
