Magnolia is an amazing plant with incredibly beautiful flowers and a subtle vanilla-lemon aroma. Due to its extraordinary appearance, the perennial is actively used in landscape design. With its help, alleys and parks, private homesteads are decorated. The tree can often be found along the seashore.

 Before planting, magnolia seeds need to be stratified:

 - Prepare the sphagnum. For this purpose, sand, neutral peat, perlite and vermiculite are suitable. The sphagnum should be soaked in water for 20 minutes, after which it should be squeezed out thoroughly.

 -Immerse the planting material in a moist substrate. The seeds should be covered from all sides.

 -Put all this "mixture" in a plastic container with a lid. Alternatively, you can use a plastic bag.

 -Send the vessel to the lower compartment of the refrigerator. The temperature must be adjusted to +5 C.

The container with seeds should be kept in such conditions for 3 months. All this time, you need to open it periodically and carefully inspect the contents (1 time every 2-3 weeks). If the seeds dry out, then sprinkle them with water from a spray bottle. And if they get moldy, rinse thoroughly in water with the addition of potassium permanganate. When the protective shell of the grains bursts, they are completely ready for germination.

 It is necessary to sow the grains first in some container or in a greenhouse. In the first case, choose a vessel with drainage holes in the bottom. For example, these can be containers with a height of 15 cm and a size of 9 × 9 cm. They won't take up much space on the windowsill. At the bottom of the container, pour drainage – expanded clay or walnut shells. Alternatively, you can use sawdust, cones, pieces of bark, needles or sunflower husks. Choose what you have at hand. The drainage layer should occupy no more than 4 parts of the container volume.

 The land for growing magnolias from seeds can be used purchased. The universal soil intended for seedlings has proven itself well. Just add a small amount of perlite and long-acting mineral fertilizers to it. Now spread the seeds on the surface of the nutrient substrate and sprinkle them on top (layer up to 3 cm).

 Important! Do not cover the grains with too thick a layer of earth. Otherwise, it will be difficult for them to get rid of the seed shells. Shoots will rise in "caps" and risk to die soon.

 Place containers with crops on a warm and well-lit windowsill. If all the rules of stratification are followed, the germination of the ornamental crop will be high. Now your task is to maintain optimal soil moisture. The soil should not dry out too much or drown in water.

 When transferring a magnolia to the open ground, it is important to carefully and competently choose a place for it in the garden. The perennial has a fragile root system. During transplantation from one place to another, it can be damaged, and the plant can get sick. Therefore, it is better to think everything through in advance. To, as they say, plant once and for all. The plot must meet the following requirements:

 -have protection from winds and cold drafts;

 - be well illuminated by the sun. In the southern regions, light shading will be needed;

 - the land should not be sandy, heavy and clayey. The tree does not tolerate too wet and calcareous soil.
