Description

The 944: It was originally announced in September, 1981 and was the direct descendant of the 924 Carrera series. In mid 1985, 944's underwent their first significant changes and a Turbo Intercooled version was introduced (code named 951). Improved aerodynamics plus a strengthened gearbox, wider wheels and uprated suspension were also implemented. A total of 25,107 944 Turbos were made, with 14,235 being exported to the USA. Porsche also produced 198 versions of the 944 Turbo as Cup racing cars. Our poster is a direct recreation from the original artwork of this excellent sports machine.

The 911SC: In 1978, Porsche introduced the new version of the 911, called the '911SC'. Porsche reintroduced the SC designation for the first time since the 356SC (as distinguished from the race engined 356 Carrera). There was no Carrera version of the 911SC. The "SC" stands for "Super Carrera". It featured a 3.0-litre engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a 5-speed 915 transmission. Originally power output was 180 bhp, later 188 bhp and then in 1981 it was increased to 204 bhp. In 1981 a Cabriolet concept car was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The convertible body design also featured four-wheel drive, although this was dropped in the production version. The first 911 Cabriolet debuted in late 1982, as a 1983 model. This was Porsche's first cabriolet since the 356 of the mid-1960s. A total of 4,214 were sold in its introductory year, despite its premium price relative to the open-top targa.Cabriolet versions of the 911 have been offered ever since. In 1979, Porsche had made plans to replace the 911 with their new 928. Sales of the 911 remained so strong however, that Porsche revised its strategy and decided to inject new life into the 911 editions. 911 SC sales totaled 58,914 cars.

911 Turbo: In 1974 Porsche introduced the first production turbocharged 911. Although called simply Porsche 911 Turbo in Europe, it was marketed as Porsche 930 (930 being its internal type number) in North America. The body shape is distinctive thanks to wide wheel-arches to accommodate the wide tires, and a large rear spoiler often known as a "whale tail" on the early cars, and "tea-tray" on the later ones. Starting out with a 3.0L engine these early cars are known for their exhilarating acceleration coupled with challenging handling characteristics and extreme turbo lag. Production figures of the basic 930 soon qualified it for FIA Group 4 competition, with the racing version called the Porsche 934 of 1976. Many participated at Le Mans and other races.

The 924: The basic 924 was initially launched in 1976 although special editions like the Martini (1977) and other variants such as the 924 turbo (1978), 924S (1986/7) and Le Mans (1988) were also built. It was the first Porsche to use a water cooled front mounted engine. Interestingly, the 924 was originally commissioned by Volkswagen (co-developed by Porsche). However, Volkswagen cancelled the project so Porsche bought the design and sold it under their own badge thus also making it the first affordable Porsche. Production of the 924 ceased in 1988 but this great cutaway poster is available for immediate delivery.

The 928 :The Porsche 928 was launched as a Grand Tourer in 1977 and was voted Car of the Year in 1978. There were several variants such as the 928S, S2, S4, GT & GTS. In 1986, the 928 won the distinction of being the World's Fastest Production Car, earning the Land Speed Record at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The 928 was often referred to as a shark due to its shape, pop up headlights and the ability to eat up miles. Production of the 928 GTS ceased in 1995 but this great cutaway poster is available to buy now.
