'Pilote' PN Leather Flying Jacket  - 42"/52cm+

Made by Patrol Equipment - France

This is a very good version (copy) of the French Air Force 70s-80s PN flying jacket.Which I acquired 4-5 years ago. And have only worn it a couple of times - as I've always felt it just a fraction too large for my frame.

And, in fact having owned genuine original PNs too - I think this copy is better: as instead of using kid leather (too soft, light & luxurious for a flying jacket I feel), this is made with a very good quality cattle hide; which is heavier & holds it's shape much better ... .

In any event, this is a really nice item - With a reassuringly heavier, military spec-quality. And I understand Patrol Equipment have contracts to supply leather jackets/items to the French Police force.

All the design element are accurate & authentic:

Original PNs are in a slightly lighter petrol-blue - where this example is in a darker Blue-Black - which I assume most would prefer.

However, in all other respects it's totally accurate in design, quality & dimensions:

Zipped, X2 waist pockets; zipped sleeve pouch & pen holder ( ... the 70s version was oval in shape); a shoulder flap to contain an I.D; X2 inner breast pockets, elasticated & adjustable waist band. And removable quilted cold weather lining & fleece collar. Also - even the little pocket in the rear of the lining for a flourescent air-rescue tabbard :   )

N.B. Photos both with AND without the lining & Winter collar

Also: If you research these - be careful - many of those 'specialist forums' seem to spout a lot of rubbish - and rabbiting-on about examples that aren't even authentic copies let alone original issue  ;   )

(eg. the knackered example in the Japanese ad.)

Tho there are (a few)  good copies still produced (usually in France); and generally retailing at around 500-plus - hope that helps :  )

Measurements:

N.B. The mannequin is an athletic 40 chest & 6ft-1" tall

And I'm 5ft-10 and (a bit overweight) 41 Chest - and it fits OK - but I feel it would be even better on someone slightly larger

And, I believe it would work particularly well for someone 42 +  - and would easily work for someone upto 6ft-1

Therefore, please check the measurements carefully & you decide ... .

And, if you need any further guidance - please feel free to ask ...

Background

I've been collecting vintage clothing for over 20 years. And now looking to slim things down, as we're intending to move in late 2024.

As you'd assume, things took some effort & expense to acquire - mostly from London markets and specialist fairs. And was always selected carefully, with thought to condition, quality and whether it represented the best of the era - mostly early-mid 60s.

Nothing offered will be 'tired' or worn-out - be it vintage or otherwise.

And, as I know the disappointment of receiving things that are not as presented, I'll be making every effort to describe things fully and honestly - whilst giving any guidance on sizing I can.

Everything being sent clean & ready to wear.
